Research Technician Grant (1 vacancy) Reference: FERROCLEAN/BI/2018-102 A competition is open for the attribution of 1 Research Technician Grant (BTI - Bolsa de Técnico de Investigação) in the framework of project FERROCLEAN - Ferrofluidic Extensional Rheological Response for Ocean CLEANup, with reference MIT-EXPL/IRA/0077/2017, supported by the MIT Portugal programme, according to the following conditions: 1. Scientific area: Biological sciences 2. Admission requirements: The candidate must hold a three-year basic degree in the field of biology or related fields (with classification equal or higher than 14 values out of 20). Experience in monitoring and management of aquatic systems, conducting ecotoxicological assays with marine organisms, effects of organic aquatic contamination and evaluations of biochemical biomarkers is of preference. 3. Work plan: The research plan involves the following tasks: - Collection and laboratory maintenance of test organisms to be used in the work; - Conduction of ecotoxicological assays with marine organisms; - Determination of molecular biomarkers; - Participate in the planning of all experiments; - Participate in the development of studies in collaboration with other partner institutions of the project; - Perform data analysis, discuss results obtained, produce progress reports and collaborate in the preparation of scientific articles. 4. Legislation and official rules: Law nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellowship and Studentship Regulation); Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. ? 2015 and CIIMAR Grants Regulation. 5. Work place: The work will be carried out at CIIMAR and in the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, and at the University of Aveiro in collaboration with other project partners, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Laura Guimarães, Prof. Luís Oliva Teles and Prof. António Paulo Carvalho. 6. Duration of the grant: Duration of three (3) months, starting in february 2018, under the regime of exclusive dedication, eventually renewable according to legal terms, up to 9 months. 7. Monthly maintenance stipend: The monthly maintenance allowance is ?745 (seventy hundred and forty five Euros ? Taxe Free), in agreement with the monthly maintenance stipend table of the grants directly attributed by FCT, I.P. within the country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en) plus voluntary social security and a personal accidents insurance. The payment will be made monthly by bank transfer. 8. Selection methods: Ranking of candidates will be performed by a global evaluation based on: - Evaluation of the Curriculum Vitae - 25%; - Experience in the areas listed in the admission requirements - 25%; - Interview ? 50% (Only the first 5 candidates with an evaluation >40% in the sum of the two previous criteria, will be interviewed). If the candidates do not show up in the interview it will be considered as a withdrawal of application, being those candidates excluded from the competition. The jury reserves the right to not assign the research technician grant if none of the candidates meets all requirements and match the desired profile. 9. Form of Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through a list sorting the candidates according to their attributed mark, on the CIIMAR website and by e-mail; in case of disagreement, the candidates have a 10-working day term in which to contest the decision, if he/she so wishes, as provided for in the Código do Procedimento Administrativo in a preliminary hearing setting. 11. Deadline for application and presentation of applications: The competition is open from 9 until 22 January 2019.
