Job Description

The Statutory Accounting Manager provides direction for the respective statutory process team within the In-Country FSC and thereafter leading the primary liaison to the respective Legal Entity CFOs, Auditors, NGSC (Novartis Global Service Center), BPA (Business Planning & Analysis) and commercial business partners, having the oversight of all services provided from the in-country team.
This role ensures accurate reporting of financial information to stakeholders in accordance to statutory and tax regulations and policies.
This key leadership role has the critical responsibility of managing the team providing GL statutory services to their respective entities and providing the thought leadership to drive improvements and being accountable for superior customer service. This role is reporting directly to the NGSC Head of FRA.
Major Accountabilities:
Performance Management and Service Delivery
? Has the operational oversight to provide services at expected levels with a clear customer focus, including handling the exceptions
? Provides functional guidance from a statutory accounting perspective for business transactions. Interacts proactively with the NGSC to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting
? Is responsible for an on-time submission of tax submission (corporate tax; indirect tax) and statutory reports to management and authorities following local regulations
? Prepares the bridge between IFRS, Statutory and Tax P&L and Balance-Sheet
? Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for related statutory policies and processes, supports productivity objectives and continuous improvement, process changes and leading practices to have an efficient and effective process
? Act as a compliance champion
? Drives and monitors improvements to sustain a highly effective and efficient statutory accounting and reporting process, and realizes cost reduction opportunities including areas to harmonize and standardize processes
? Collaborates with key stakeholders, including accounting authorities/auditors
? Drives the measurement and delivery of service levels and SLA/KPI targets
? Act as Super User for in-country processes
? Provision of training / skill sharing to the business on key processes
? Support local and global corporate functions in managing bank relationship activities, strategic Treasury & Cash management activities in close coordination with NGSC
Manage day-to-day activities for Statutory Accounting and Reporting
? Actively contributes to the period-end closing and reporting in accordance with laws and Novartis required standards
? Supports the balance sheet account reconciliations of allocated accounts and ensures timely resolution and cleans of overdue items identified
? Ensures proper statutory accounting of financial transactions and accounting specific questions are well addressed and solved
? Proactively reviews statutory accounts and the bridging from IFRS to statutory to ensure all financial transactions are valid and recorded to ensure accuracy of reported data
? Prepares the notes for the statutory annual report leveraging existing information from the NGSC
? Prepare, reconcile tax related accounts (Corporate tax; Deferred tax; VAT; other tax; ... ) and ensure timely submission of local Corporate tax and Indirect Tax (VAT)
? Prepares and leads management of specific statutory Accounting Position Papers (sAPP) and contributes to IFRS APPs with statutory expertise.
? Manages and advises the business with projects providing accounting guidance/expertize
? Analysis of accounting data and plausibility checks
? Prepares statutory reports following local regulations like local Board of Directors
Compliance
? Ensures all processes, policies and procedures are clearly defined, fully documented and aligned to Finance Core
? Ensures compliance with local GAAP and Novartis Financial Controls Manual (NFCM)
? Ensures application of agreed Novartis control procedures and actively supports to deliver SOX certification
? Promotes a strong control environment, follows up on allocated audit issues and implements correcting measures

Minimum requirements

University level degree in Business Administration/ Economics/Finance or Chartered Accountant / MBA desirable
Lean/ Six Sigma Certified preferred
Portuguese. English (written and spoken)
5-10+ years of financial experience, with in-depth functional expertise
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-national organization
SAP expertise
Previous experience in auditing, statutory and IFRS accounting
Experience in managing projects driving performance improvements
Profound people skills, leadership exposure
