The EDP Renewables, company of EDP Group, aim to be a long-term market leader in the renewable energy sector, pursuing credibility through safety, value creation, social responsibility, innovation, and respect for the environment. The H2BU- the hydrogen business unit of EDPR requires an experienced and motivated person for Procurement.


General Description and Main Responsabilities:

The main responsibility for the Responsible for Procurement will be to ensure that all the activities relating to the procurement of services and equipment for the projects developed by H2BU are carried out in an adequate, timely and compliant manner. Typical procurement processes will relate to engineering related services, EPC contracting, supervision services, commissioning services, H&S services, consulting services and equipment purchase (electrolyzers, compressors, fuel stations, storage tanks, BoP components, etc.).

In particular, the Responsible for Procurement will have a direct responsibility in implementing and managing all the administrative/contractual aspects of the procurement processes and in ensuring full compliance of these processes with EDP?s and EDPR?s policies and with regulatory and legal obligations.

Moreover, the Responsible for Procurement will develop a pivotal role in supporting and bringing together other procurement stakeholders, namely but not exclusively:

  • each project?s project manager, that will be the H2BU person responsible for coordinating all project?s activities in order to ensure its delivery in acceptable conditions of cost, time and technical and legal compliance.
  • the H2 Tech unit of EDPP, that will have the responsibility of supporting H2BU in all technical aspects of the projects, and namely on what concerns procurement to establish the technical standards to be used by the project, to qualify suppliers, to write technical conditions for specific bidding processes, to answer technical queries by bidders and to participate in the analysis, evaluation and recommendation of the technical part of the bids;
  • any entity, namely engineering consultants, that may from time to time replace the H2 Tech unit of EDPP in its functions as described above.
  • EDPR Procurement Department, namely for processes directly undertaken by this department, like wind turbines, PV panels or others;
  • EDP and EDPR?s compliance and legal departments.
  • legal advisers supporting the procurement processes.

In order to ensure a seamless interaction with EDPR Procurement Department and warrant full compliance with EDP and EDPR policies and best practices, the Responsible for Procurement will be seconded to the EDPR Procurement Department, where it will be functionally integrated, though hierarchically being a member of H2BU?s organization.

The Responsible for Procurement will be based in one of Iberia EDP Group offices.


Main Accountabilities:

  • Be H2BU?s focal point for the procurement of services and equipment needed for projects developed by H2BU and for the H2 market competitive intelligence.
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance on all procurement issues, playing a pivotal role and involving as required other EDPR or EDP Group areas such as Legal, Compliance, Origination, Technical, Procurement, etc., guaranteeing alignment with the best practices adopted by EDPR and EDP Group.
  • Be responsible for the execution of competitive RFIs, RFQs, and detailed Costs analysis, implementing and lead competitive bid processes for services and equipment for Hydrogen projects, including tender planning, tender documentation coordination and preparation, suppliers? listing, evaluation grids? development, tender launching, interaction management, bids? reception and conformity checking, and respective coordination with H2BU Project Managers, Procurement management, and H2Tech.
  • Negotiate purchases and contracts, gathering input from and coordinating with the Project Management teams and H2Tech teams to assist with negotiation and execution of services rendering and equipment supply, installation, warranty, and maintenance, including bid analysis, negotiation and final selection.
  • Assist Project Management and Procurement management with contract award review, analysis, and presentation of recommendation to executive level leadership.
  • Assist H2BU Project Managers, Procurement management, and H2Tech specialists with the development of contracting strategies and processes that result in most probable successful completion of Hydrogen projects and best value for the Company.
  • Liaise with the project managers, and keep them informed of every aspect or event of the procurement processes that may impact the projects normal development
  • Support audits to contracted suppliers as may be required by projects
  • Follow-up other procurement activities relevant to H2BU?s projects, generally developed by the EDPR Procurement Department, namely wind turbines and PV panels acquisition for green hydrogen projects
  • Manage relationships with vendors including but not limited to identifying new market entrants, supplier qualification, technical proposal review, and commercial and contractual negotiations.
  • Coordinate the technical due diligence process among different vendors, tracking the Hydrogen services and equipment? markets and monitor technological advances in the industry.

Looking for people with the following requirements:

  • University Degree in engineering;
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in industrial and project procurement activities, namely in similar industries (energy, chemical, process), including experience in negotiation and involvement in the management of the commercial, legal and compliance aspects of the procurement processes.
  • Specific experience in hydrogen/gas projects will be considered a plus.
  • Experience in working in multidisciplinary project teams and dealing with external stakeholders (e.g., contractors, technology providers, authorities, clients, etc.) will also be considered a plus.;
  • Fluent in English and Spanish or Portuguese;
  • Availability for occasional travelling;

  • Ability to quickly understand the basics of a variety of subjects relating to renewable energy and Hydrogen including civil and electrical engineering designs and detailed drawings along with transmission issues, taxes, finance, and energy sales
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work productively with limited supervision
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Strong interest in environmental issues and renewable energy
