Qualifications

  • University degree from a reputable institution with an outstanding academic record; advanced degree a plus
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Understanding of and a strong interest in corporate finance concepts and willingness to quickly learn and disseminate detailed topical knowledge
  • Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, and a willingness to take ownership and self-manage
  • High professional and respectful of ethical standards and confidentiality
  • Proven problem-solving skills with ability to quickly process complex information and present it clearly and simply
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required; knowledge of analytical tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau, R, Python, SQL); understanding of statistics / analytics is a plus but not required
  • Sophisticated English language communication skills, across all levels, particularly in written communications
  • Ability to multi-task and manage workload effectively under pressure
  • Strong service orientation
  • High energy 'can do' attitude and a proactive approach to practice and team support
  • Ability to strike a balance between being flexible enough to deal with a rapidly changing knowledge management environment and being firm about maintaining consistency where necessary

Who You'll Work With

You?ll be based in our Lisbon office, and be part of the S&CF Insights team. S&CF Insights is McKinsey?s center of excellence in advanced analytics for the S&CF practice. Its purpose is to empower teams with advanced, yet easy-to-use, analytical capabilities that can generate superior insights and transform client conversations. To this end, the S&CF practice, in conjunction with the McKinsey Global Institute, has assembled one of the world?s most sophisticated groups of experts, sets of databases, and analytical techniques. S&CF Insights is a global team of finance experts and strategists that addresses clients? questions about valuation and value creation. The center combines the best of McKinsey?s financial analysis capabilities, proprietary tools and insights, broad industry knowledge, and practical application perspectives. Tim Koller, a world-class expert in the field and the lead author of Valuation and Value, is our group founder. The team is co-lead by Werner Rehm and Chris Mulligan, who work closely with our team of 90+ professionals across our global hubs. The S&CF Insights has locations in New York, Gurugram, Shanghai, Amsterdam, London and Costa Rica, and now Lisbon. We are currently recruiting candidates for our Lisbon location. What You'll Do

You will support clients and client teams, and practice leadership through quantitative and qualitative analysis, research, knowledge and practice management. In this role, you will be expected to handle short- and medium-term research requests related to S&CF, articulate, scope, and prioritize research needs and identify and gather relevant information using a broad spectrum of appropriate sources balancing quality, availability, timeliness, and cost factors. You will need to organize, analyze, and synthesize facts into targeted, McKinsey formatted end products. These end products can be in the form of single exhibits, written summaries, financial models, basic fact packs, and spreadsheets, coordinate request handling and dispatching with the appropriate colleagues globally. Day-to-day tasks may include helping structure a client question, determining the sources of insight, analyzing data, and communicating findings. Further, you will assist clients in developing internal capabilities to better implement strategies. You will also help develop new client opportunities, through proposal preparation, pipeline tracking, etc. Related responsibilities will include identifying product and offering needs and structuring the issues and problems with product teams to facilitate prioritization, development and implementation. Over time, you will be expected to build a good understanding across S&CF topics and develop areas of expertise. You?ll collaborate with the S&CF knowledge team and practice leadership to build and share knowledge, best practices and new ideas (e.g., writing articles, updating playbooks, and supporting the Knowledge Review Board process). You will enable reach and relevance (e.g., supporting landmark client events such as Integration Leaders Forum), help develop internal learning curricula, and maintain case libraries.
