The job:

As Senior Manager, Product Line Leader for our PGNAA & Minerals product line, you will own all upstream marketing functions globally, including: Product Management; Product Marketing; Field Marketing; and Applications. Additionally, the role will lead all minerals commercial activities globally. You will also influence other functions (R&D, Service, and Operations) to ensure we meet our yearly marketing, bookings, revenue, and growth targets. Our success will come from your work ethic, eye for business, relationship-building skills, understanding of key markets, and passion to drive a distributed team to achieve ambitious targets. You will lead a team of 7, with 5 direct reports, all based globally.

This role will be fully remote (working from home) and we are happy to consider qualified candidates based anywhere globally, except China. Global travel - up to 25% per annum - will be required (when safe to do so), with a particular focus on North America, Europe and Australia.

Our Organisation:

Our Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) provides a diverse mix of analytical instruments and associated services to a broad range of end user markets including Safety & Security, Environmental, Food Safety, Energy, Mining, Life Science Manufacturing and Recycling, to name a few. Its instruments are deployed in the field and on the line, in challenging environments where customers put a premium on robustness, reliability and ease of use. They allow them to make decisions where they operate and streamline their businesses. CAD is a complex division with a global footprint, broad product portfolio and diverse customer base.

The Material and Minerals (M&M) business, where this role sits, is a part of CAD. M&M has over 700 employees globally with historical revenues in excess of $200 million dollars.

Within our PGNAA & Mineral product line, we manufacture x-ray, x-ray fluorescence, and prompt-gamma neutron activation analyzers for the measurement of elemental composition of a wide range of materials in production and process control environments; including cement, copper, gold, iron ore, phosphate, and other minerals. www.thermofisher.com/PGNAA & www.thermofisher.com/minerals

What will you do?

  • Own the revenue, bookings, and gross margin for the PGNAA & Mineral product line
  • Be responsible for the execution of initiatives to drive profitability including: product mix management; cost-down projects; and driving business-case for high-margin R&D projects
  • Own the product roadmap and be accountable for product lifecycle management from concept through to discontinuation
  • Define pivotal initiatives to improve results and deliver growth
  • Deliver monthly updates to the business unit and divisional leadership on progress towards annual operating plan goals and strategic priorities
  • Be responsible for the development of business cases to encourage investment in new products, or initiatives to achieve growth in exciting new or adjacent markets
  • Directly lead, develop, and provide direction to your product line marketing team
  • Work in partnership with our downstream marketing and regional marketing organization to implement campaigns that deliver awareness and demand for your products
  • Your success will be judged on bookings, customer-allegiance score (CAS), revenue, vitality, and profitability

Who we are looking for:

  • A Degree in Marketing or Business (MBA preferred)
  • Significant experience within Product Management and/or Product Marketing
  • Experience with capital equipment sales and long lead time operations
  • Some scientific and product line/market knowledge of PGNAA & Minerals, with a solid understanding of relevant markets (mining & cement industries) and key drivers would be beneficial (but not essential)
  • An experienced people leader, with the ability to coach, mentor, and influence in distributed (remote) team settings
  • A strong business discernment, with a good understanding of financial reporting
  • Driven and self-motivated; adventurous, with a bias for action that achieves results. You will have strong interpersonal skills and be an outstanding teammate
  • Confident presentation skills
  • Experience working in a matrix structured organization
  • Flexibility with your working hours (to accommodate global calls and travel to different time zones)
  • Ability to travel globally, up to 25% per annum (on average)
  • Fluent in English (verbal & written)
