CALL FOR A POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Ref.ª IMM/BIPD/14-2021
Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM) opens a call for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship with the funding support from European Commission, through the research project ?Exploring the hidden life of African trypanosomes: parasite fat tropism and implications for disease? (ERC- FATTRYP - GA771714 - H2020).
Work Plan and Goals: Trypanosoma brucei parasite has a complex life cycle adapting rapidly to changes in different host environments (nutrient availability, temperature, host defenses, etc.) for survival and function. Recently, Luisa Figueiredo lab has shown that adipose tissue is a major reservoir of Trypanosoma brucei parasites in a mouse model of African trypanosomiasis. This discovery raises several questions notably to understand why T. brucei parasite accumulates in adipose tissue and if adipose tissue environment is beneficial for the parasite survival and transmission. In this project, the postdoctoral research fellow will characterize the parasite-host interaction of tissue colonization during an infection by T. brucei parasites.
Candidate?s ProfileConditions: Fellowship contract predicted to start in September 2021 with a duration of 12 months, eventually renewable not exceeding the eligibility period of the project.
Law and Regulation: Law and Regulation: Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação (Lei n.º 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto, republished in attachment to Decreto-Lei n.º 202/2012, de 27 de Agosto, changed by Decreto-Lei n.º 123/2019, 28 de Agosto), current Regulation of Fellowships of iMM and iMM Career By-Law and Assessment regulations.
Application process: The call starts on 22nd June and ends on 5th July 2021 (10 working days). Interested candidates must send: - 1-page motivation Letter written in English; - Detailed CV, including a list of publications, research grants, prizes and technical expertise; - PhD Certificate; - Name and Contact of two references, to Human Resources to the email [email protected], indicating the reference of the fellowship IMM/BIPD/14-2021 (mandatory). The non-compliance with these requirements determines the immediate rejection of the application.
Communication of Results: The results will be published in iMM website https://imm.medicina.ulisboa.pt/jobs/#results and posted at the entrance lobby of the Institute.
