Supply & Trading Risk Manager


Mission


Reporting to the Business Office, the Supply and Trading Risk Manager will be responsible for providing a wide range of support, advice and quantitative analytical insight across the Midstream Supply and Trading value chain risks (Oil, Natural Gas and Power), ensuring that Galp Midstream has robust risk models that deliver their intended outcomes, advising and proposing risk mitigations actions to minimize overall business risk . The Supply and Trading Risk Manager will act as the Local Risk officer (LRO) for all supply and trading activities, anticipating and mitigating potential risks for the company.


What you'll do


  • Monitor and report periodically key risks in the supply and trading portfolio of Midstream (with high level of quantification and understanding);
  • Interact with traders to develop a coherent and real time view across markets, independently assessing the risk/reward of the strategies, and advise on portfolio management;
  • Work close with Derivatives Desk studying and developing structured hedging programs for Galp, with Business Managers and Corporate Risk;
  • Analyze Galp aggregated expositions and propose corrections measures for Galp global market risks, that are not constrain to hedging, and that can consist in netting, pricing, processes or stocks optimizations;
  • Develop fundamental market analysis and modelling (prices, volatility, volumes, V@Rs and CashFlow@R) to support Derivatives Desk and other Front Desks to ensure trading strategies across commodities, time periods and geographies and to develop more robust hedging strategies, but also to improve supply contract risk management for long term contracts of GN or Power and for Oil value chain;
  • Support Middle Office, Derivatives and Trading Desks designing, developing and building of analytical tools and risk models;
  • Maintain and update the models managed/developed and improve the existing risk/pricing models or methodologies;
  • Communicate with Middle and Back office departments to escalate and resolve emergent risk issues as appropriate, not focusing on day to day risks, but on medium and long term horizon;
  • Support Middle Office to develop risk policies and standards for managing risk across the entire business, keeping Galp current and future plans for growth in mind - including new business activities, new products, new deal structures and new platforms across physical and financial commodities;
  • Work closely with Corporate Risk Management Department in order to assist them in Midstream risk monitoring activities.

What you'll need


  • Deep knowledge and experience in applying risk management measurements and concepts, including back-testing, statistical analysis, stress-testing, value-at-risk, liquidity adjusted VaR and scenario analysis;
  • Best in class analytical skills applied to commodity trading, namely exposure and risk measurements;
  • Strong level of knowledge and proficiency in the use of databases and analytics tools, with proven track record in the development of risk and market models;
  • Demonstrable experience in quantifying and managing risks associated with exotic and vanilla derivatives portfolios;
  • Advanced excel user;
  • Advanced knowledge of commodities markets ? physical and financial;
  • (preferential) knowledge of energy trading markets;
  • (preferential) Knowlegde of Matlab and VBA programming;
  • Experience interacting directly with traders, originators and senior management.
  • Team player within and outside own topics;
  • Self-driven and results oriented;
  • Risk-taking and value-driven culture urging risk, commercial and cooperative behaviours;
  • Communication skills to create buy-in and transparency on the value and risk impact.
  • Educated to degree level in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Finance, Economics or similar;
  • Significant experience in risk management or trading within an Investment Bank, Hedge Fund or Energy Trading firm, either as a trader or risk manager which may include managing and developing a risk function;
  • Knowledge of energy products (Global Crude Oil and Oil Products, European Power, European Gas, Global LNG).
