Job description:
A competition is open for the attribution of 1 research Grant in the framework of the project OCEAN3R (NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000064), supported by the North Portugal Regional Operational Programme (NORTE2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement and through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), according to the following conditions: 1. Scientific area: Biological Sciences 2. Admission requirements We are looking for a candidate with a BSc degree in Biology or similar areas, and enrolled in a master's program at the time of application, with the aim of consolidating his scientific training through the development of research work leading to the achievement of the respective MSc degree or on a non-academic degree course integrated in an educational project of a developed higher education institution in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units Preference will be given to candidates available to develop his / her master's thesis under the theme ?Characterisation of saltmarsh diatom biofilms: community composition and dynamics in an aquaculture-related system?. If the BSc degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the candidate must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August at the time of the signature of the contract. 3. Work plan: The selected candidate will work for the project OCEAN3R, namely within research line RL1 (Removing and monitoring chemical and plastic contamination: towards zero pollution NW Portuguese waters), activity A1.2 (Efficiency of toxicity removal and risk assessment). This activity will investigate methods for assessing the removal of toxicity resulting from the mitigation strategies implemented by the project, including quality assessment and routine monitoring of the ecosystem's health status. 4. Legislation and official rules: Law nº.40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellowship Holder Statute) in its current version; Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. and CIIMAR Grants Regulation. 5. Work place: The work will be carried out at CIIMAR, Edifício do Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos, s/n, 4450-208 Matosinhos, and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, Rua do Campo Alegre s/n, 4169-007 Porto, under the supervision of Prof Doutor Luis Oliva-Teles, Prof Dr António Paulo Carvalho, Doutora Laura Guimarães. 6. Duration of the contract: Duration of 12 months, starting in September 2021, under the regime of exclusive dedication. 7. Monthly salary: The monthly maintenance allowance is 835,98 ?, in agreement with the monthly maintenance stipend table of the grants directly attributed by FCT, I.P. within the country https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en , by bank transfer payment. 8. Selection methods: The evaluation will take into account: - Merit of the academic curriculum and performance (global appreciation taking into account the suitability and respective classification of the BSc)- 40% - Relevant experience and qualification for the proposed research area - 50%; - Motivation letter - 10%. The evaluation process may include an interview with the three top candidates, in which case the interview will have a weight of 20% and the evaluation previously carried out will have a weight of 80%. The jury reserves the right to not assign the research grant if none of the candidates meets all requirements and matches the desired profile. 9. Form of advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be send through a list sorting the candidates according to their attributed mark, by e-mail and available in CIIMAR website; in case of disagreement, the candidates have a 10-working day term in which to contest the decision, if he/she so wishes, as provided for in the Código do Procedimento Administrativo in a preliminary hearing setting. The jury reserves the right to not assign the contract depending on the quality of the applications. 11. Attachments should be limited to 5 MB total size. Applications that do not include all the elements previously indicated will not be considered.
