A call is open to award one research grant for PhD Students to develop research activities within the I&D Project IN2TRACK3, Call H2020-S2RJU-CFM-2020, Topic: S2R-CFM-IP3-01-2020, project number 101012456, financed by the EU, in the following conditions:
Research Field: Smart geomaterials in railways substructures
Recipients: Students of PhD Programme in Civil Engineering
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria defined in point 9º of the ?Regulamento de Bolsas da Universidade do Minho?, publicado no Diário da República n.º 119/2020, Série II de 2020-06-22.
Work plan: Development of an innovative and smart materials using fibre-based sensors (self-sensing cementitious geocomposites) for continuous monitoring and damage identification and localization. This is an up-scaling of the experimental proof of concept in IN2TRACK2. The approaches where the piezoresistive effect can be provided will be tested to enhance cement-based geocomposite self-sensing capabilities to be applied in smart rail track structures (under ballast layer or under concrete slab or transition zones). This innovative and smart geocomposite will be tested in a laboratory physical model and optimised for the specific application in the smart track support.
Applicable legislation and regulations: Status of the scientific researcher fellow approved by Law nº 40/2004 of 18th of August, in its current form published by Decree-Law nº 123/2019 of 28th of August); ?Regulamento de Bolsas da Universidade do Minho?, publicado no Diário da República n.º 119/2020, Série II de 2020-06-22.
Work place: The research work will be developed at the School of Engineering of University of Minho (ISISE ? Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering and 2C2T - Textile Science and Technology), under the scientific supervision of Professor António Gomes Correia and Raul Fangueiro.
Duration of the Grant: The grant will have the maximum duration of 12 months,eventually renewable according to the applicable legislation, beginning in June 2021.
Monthly Allowance: The monthly allowance corresponds to ?1074.64, according to the pay scale for the grants of the ?Universidade do Minho? (Anexo II ? Tabela dos Montantes das Bolsas).
Selection criteria (1): The evaluation of applications will focus on the candidate's Merit, applying the following evaluation criteria, expressed in a scale from 0 and 5.
MC=(a*0,45)+(b*0,2)+(c*0,25) +(d*0,1)
Candidates with MC less than 3.5 points are considered immediately excluded.
The Selection Committee reserves the right not to award the research fellowship in the competition based on the evaluation results of the applicants and their suitability for the project objectives.
