Data Governance Officer


Mission


To help the DG team to achieve real impact with the execution and operationalization of Galp?s data governance model. This professional will play a critical role in supporting the Data Office activities, while executing the data governance initiatives roadmap. In addition, this person will help to ensure that the data governance deliverables are being implemented and fulfilled, that are generating impact and are ready for scaling in the organization.
The data governance officer will work on different initiatives and with different project teams to help govern the core data domains of the organization and be supportive in the definition of practical approaches to get the job done. Working with all Data Office functions and Organizational Units, the data governance officer will support data functions and teams in aligning data lifecycle activities, towards proper definition of the data assets according to internal data policies and, at the same time, supporting the adoption of the data governance tools.


What you'll do


  • Support the execution of data governance initiatives in achieving the objectives, proposing changes or improvements along the way;
  • Monitor execution and status of the data improvement and data quality initiatives with direct impact on the data governance model components;
  • Support the preparation and documentation to be discussed and approved in the Corporate Data Council regarding data governance initiatives;
  • Facilitate the communication between Data Owners, Data Stewards and Data Custodians to ensure proper data understanding, data definitions and lineage documentation;
  • Help to establish a dynamic map of data domains, current and potential Data Owners, Data Stewards and Data Custodians to adjust allocations and roles according to needs;
  • Monitor adherence to the defined data processes, functions and roles and support the organizational structure regarding questions about the data governance model;
  • Detail policies, standards and guidelines at company level, help formalize the data governance processes to be followed by the organization and gather feedback to identify potential areas of improvement;
  • Establish the data catalogue and support the Data Owners in keeping the data assets, data domains and definitions constantly updated (e.g. business glossary, data dictionary, data quality KPIs, data products, .?);
  • Monitor and support the implementation of the data governance tools with the IT & Digital department;
  • Support workshops and training sessions with key stakeholders on data governance tools;
  • Follow the Data Architecture Forum to ensure the alignment of objectives and milestones regarding the implementation of the data governance tools;
  • Be an ambassador of the data strategy and governance model across the organization.

What you'll need


  • Master of science in a quantitative field (information technology, computer science, statistics or equivalent) with an appetite to work on data projects;
  • Have 2+ years of relevant experience in data programs, ideally in the implementation of data governance initiatives, defining data policies and supporting the implementation of data management practices and tools;
  • Knowledge of corporate data governance models and data quality principles;
  • Knowledge about change management challenges when implementing data governance initiatives;
  • Experience in working in complex corporate environments with heavy IT implications;
  • Experience with project implementation practices, agile delivery approaches and stakeholder?s relationship management;
  • Experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data sets to support data definition activities;
  • Working knowledge of business intelligence tools as Power BI, databases, including SQL, data governance tools and processes, data architecture or related fields would be beneficial;
  • Industry standard data management certification (CDMP), CIP, CMMI, DM, etc. would be beneficial;
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements with impact on data requirements (e.g. GDPR) would be beneficial;
  • Experience in consulting companies with strong data governance and technology practices will be a plus;
  • Experience in finance or telecommunications (in areas such as data governance, risk management, digital transformation, ?) will be a plus;
  • Experience in Oil and Gas industry will be a plus.
  • Knowledge on information governance practices including information lifecycle management, data management and data modeling, having the ability to explain these concepts in nontechnical terms;
  • Strong knowledge in data policies implementation and process adaptation;
  • Good understanding about data analytics, data mapping, data modeling, data cataloguing, data governance tools and technologies;
  • Desirable knowledge on data compliance/GDPR and good understanding of data privacy, data security and data quality metrics and controls;
  • Capable of support data-related change management challenges;
  • Good program execution and PMO capabilities (execution and progress report);
  • Strategic thinking, problem solving, excellent verbal and written communication;
  • Must be able to deal with ambiguity and capable of developing guiding templates and working models to facilitate data governance practices;
  • Good business acumen, presentation skills and experience presenting to leadership audiences;
  • Confidence in working with senior stakeholders with exceptional customer focus;
  • Able to collaborate and openly debate within the team to execute projects, solve problems and discuss challenges, acting as a team player.
