Summary: A research position for one Bolsa de Investigação para Mestre (1 BI Mestre) is opened at Instituto de Telecomunicações in the scope of the project SafeFire - Human and ambient monitoring integrated sensors in firefighter workwear for increase safety, funded by the applicable financial framework (FCT/MEC through national funds and when applicable co-funded by FEDER ? PT2020 partnership agreement). The work is in the area of distributed physiological sensing using mobile and embedded technologies, with special emphasis on wearable multimodal devices.

Admission Requirements:

Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related areas; Strong knowledge in biosignal acquisition and recording, signal processing methodologies, and machine learning; Good programming skills preferably in Python and Flutter; Experience in mobile and embedded systems for physiological sensing, preferably using Raspberry Pi and Arduino-like systems for Respiration, Photoplethysmography (PPG), Electrocardiography (ECG), Electrodermal Activity (EDA), and Electroencephalography (EEG); Demonstrated ability to integrate multi-disciplinary teams; Good English writing skills; Self- motivation for scientific research.

Work Objectives: The general objective of this research is to work in the area of non-intrusive data acquisition and distributed monitoring using wearables and invisibles, with special emphasis on embedded systems programming, physiological signal acquisition, physiological signal processing, and machine learning for biomedical applications, namely involving: Respiration, Photoplethysmography (PPG), Pulse Oximetry (SpO2), and Electrocardiography (ECG) data; Development of supporting mobile software and embedded hardware tools; Laboratory and real-world benchmarking data acquisition; Systematic analysis and reporting of the main findings.


Applicable legislation: A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, ?Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações? fellowships? and ? Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação?, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Place of work: The work will be developed at the Instituto de Telecomunicações based at the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, under the supervision of Professor Ana Luisa Nobre Fred and Professor Hugo Silva



Duration: 12 months, possibly renewed in the scope of this project or another that comes next with same propos. Start date: 01-05-2021 (or soon thereafter).



Monthly Maintenance Allowance: 1.104.64? (net), according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Curriculum vitae/Academic evaluation - 40%

Suitability of the candidates? profile to the project based on the relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan - 50%

Fluency in oral and written English ? 10%

Communication of the results: DEADLINES AND PROCEDURES FOR PRELIMINARY HEARING, CLAIMS AND APPEALS

Once the provisional ranked list of the evaluation results has been communicated, applicants have 10 business days to, if they wish, dispute the decision during the preliminary hearing phase, according to Articles no. 121 and the following of the Administrative Procedure Code (CPA).

The final decision will be disclosed after the analysis of the applicants? arguments presented in the preliminary hearing. The final decision can be claimed within 15 business days or, alternatively, appealed within 30 business days, after the communication of the results, respectively. Applicants who choose to submit a claim should present their arguments to the member of the FCT Board of the Directors with the delegated competence. Applicants who prefer to submit an appeal should present their arguments to the FCT Board of Directors.

Results will be published at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, at Lisbon. The selected candidate will be notified by email.
