CALL FOR MASTER RESEARCH GRANT UNDER THE MAPINTEL/NOVAIMS/DSAIPA/DS/0116/2019 PROJECT Reference: BI MSC 2 MAPINTEL/NOVAIMS/DSAIPA/DS/0116/2019 Application Period: January 6th to January 19th, 2021 Job description: NOVA IMS opens a tender for the award of one (1) Research Grant (BI) for Master in the framework of the Scientific Project - ?MapIntel - Interactive Visual Analytics Platform for Competitive Intelligence? with reference DSAIPA/DS/0116/2019, funded entirely by national funds through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education. The project aims to explore new solutions in the area of text mining, more specifically the idea is to explore new vectorization techniques with unsupervised neural networks and produce an analytic visual environment to explore and access the text documents. Scientific Areas: Computational Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Information Management. Admission Requirements: ? Masters in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Information Management; ? The candidate should be enrolled in a doctoral program in the areas of Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Information Management, or similar areas may apply. ? Skills in the development and application of machine lerning models in classification and clustering tasks ((i.e. K-Nearest Neighbors, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosting, Self-Organizing Maps); ? Programming skills in Python, specifically in numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn e pytorch; ? Interest in the area of text mining, more specifically in the solution for numeric representation of text documents ? Experience in the preparation and writing of scientific documents (preference for candidates with experience in scientific publication). Work Plan: The selected candidate will be responsible for researching and implementing different methodologies for document vectorization and classification. The starting point for the work will be techniques such as bag of words (BOW), Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and the doc2vec method. The results from this work will be the basis for the classification of a collection of documents in a visual analytics environment. The candidate will be working closely with other researchers responsible for the development of a visual analytics environment to classify and explore the document collection. The selected candidate should write technical reports within the project and contribute to the elaboration of scientific articles; The selected candidate should assist in organizing the documentation associated with the project. P Research Fellowship Regulation, in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt). Workplace: The work will be developed at the facilities of NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), Campus de Campolide, 1070-312 Lisboa, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Professor Fernando Bação and Professor Flávio Pinheiro. Scholarship duration: The scholarship will last for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal during the duration of the project, according to the grantee's performance, on an exclusive basis, according to FCT's advanced human resources training regulation. Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to ? 1064.00, according to the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be: curriculum evaluation, with a value of 50% for academic qualifications and 50% for the degree of satisfaction of knowledge and experience requirements. If the Jury deems it necessary, an interview may be held with the candidates placed in the first three positions according to the ordering resulting from the previous criteria. In this case, the final score will include the curriculum assessment (as described above), valued at 90%, and the interview, valued at 10%. If none of the candidates has the appropriate profile (overall assessment below 50%), the scholarship will not be awarded. Selection Jury Composition: President: Professor Fernando Bação; Members: Professor Roberto Henriques and Professor Flávio Pinheiro. Form of publicity / notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be publicised, through a list ordered by final grade obtained, and the candidates will be notified via email.
