What will you be doing? The role offers the opportunity to play a critical finance role for our Portuguese Branch based in Lisbon. The focus is on our local regulatory reporting deliverables together with preparation and review of our entity general ledgers, associated processes and branch returns. The candidate must have a strong accounting and reporting background, ability to self motivate to ensure delivery, hold strong communications and be capable of interpreting regulatory (Bank of Portugal), financial (IFRS) and local tax requirements to fulfil the role successfully. Key Accountabilities We expect a high level of accountability and ownership within the following task to be fulfilled:

  • Responsible for producing and filing accurate financial information to our regulator, Barclays Group and other authorities
  • Manage the general ledgers including executing controls, adjustments, reconciliation and review to ensure integrity across all associated reporting therefrom
  • Coordinate intercompany and accounts payable activities for the branch
  • Receive and respond to queries from the regulator, tax authorities and Barclays Group
  • Respond to changes in regulations and laws, assess against our current reporting and support building a response to ensure compliance
  • Engagement with Project work and continual process optimisation
What we?re looking for:
  • Portuguese certified accountant required to support branch submissions
  • Bachelor of Science/Business Administration degree in Economics, Finance or Accounting
  • 5+ years? experience working in Banking/Finance industry or top tier consulting firm
  • Fluency in both Portuguese and English languages
  • Excellent organisational skills and a flexible and proactive work style with proven ability to meet tight timelines consistently
  • Strong analytical/problem solving mindset with focus on controls. You will be comfortable performing analysis at a granular level of detail to ensure our deliverables are high quality, accurate and on time
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. You will be comfortable working with and creating robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Skills that will help you in the role:
  • Previous experience in a Financial Control or Regulatory Reporting function at a top tier organisation
  • Excellent knowledge of Portuguese and IFRS accounting standards together with regulatory and tax rules
  • Experience in preparing, reviewing and submitting EMF, FinRep, EIS and tax compliance returns
  • Experience in financial and regulatory systems architecture together with familiar tools used SAP, Excel
  • Flexible usage of various software/system packages SAP and Excel knowledge
