THE ROLE & TEAM

We are looking for a talented Lead UI Designer to motivate and inspire our team and work on producing amazing visual experiences across our products, whilst guiding our Product Design team on best practices and standards. You?ll be immediately helping our team shape a new Visual Language that will soon be rolled out to some of our key products. This is a hands-on role and reports to the Product Design Manager.


WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Working with multiple Business Units to deliver visual solutions to business problems
  • Mentor and drive the Product Designers in the Team, focusing on technical solutions and best-practices while adopting world-class standards
  • Working with other designers, engineers and product owners to ensure high quality delivery
  • Identifying success metrics and using data (qual & quant) to drive design decisions
  • Defining the information architecture, visual interactions and goals for each project
  • Wire-framing and validating the design solutions to prepare for development
  • Building high-fidelity designs and interactable prototypes
  • Documenting design guidelines and actively sharing knowledge on how to utilise the design system
  • Always seeking out design system best practices, design patterns across multiple industries and products to constantly evolve Hostelworld products and design language


WHAT WE?RE LOOKING FOR

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years? experience as a UI, Visual or Product Designer
  • Worked in-house, for a company with great visual culture, preferably in the Travel/Social industries
  • Experience in start-up/ fast paced environment
  • Proven technical understanding and experience on building and using scalable design systems and/or UI pattern libraries
  • Experience designing for Web, Android and iOS
  • A portfolio demonstrating your work and capability to inspire others
  • Great understanding of visual harmony, information hierarchy and design patterns: You should be able to produce quality and scalable visual designs (Bonus for Figma expertise)
  • Experience in writing simple and clear design documentation for designers, engineers, product owners and other stakeholders
  • Ability to clearly articulate and explain ideas to other designers, engineers, product managers and other stakeholders
  • Growth mindset: actively identify and drive growth outcomes, while balancing business growth and customer problems
  • Understand how to validate and de-risk a design
  • Care about the impact the design work produces
  • Self-sufficient and capable of performing their functions independently and autonomously


Nice to have:

  • Design or technical degree
  • Experience working with travel, social or ecommerce products
  • Experience working alone or running their own business
  • Figma and Design Systems experience
  • Interest/Experience in motion design, illustration
  • HTML, CSS and JavaScript basic skills
  • Copywriting basic skills
