Introduction Are you a recent Master graduate looking to start a research position? / Would you like to be a key player in the introduction of renewable energies in an urban living laboratory using batteries? INL is seeking a recent Master graduate in the area of materials science and solar cells. The selected candidate will be working with the Nanofabrication for Optoelectronics Applications (NOA) Group. NOA?s Research Group focus in the incorporation of nanotechnology in optoelectronic devices with a strong industrial and innovation potential. The core competences of the group are bottom-up nanofabrication and characterization of optoelectronic materials and devices. NOA´s nanofabrication cornerstone is INL´s cutting edge and semi- industrial clean room facilities. Moreover, the vast international experience of the group members in semiconductor materials is the backbone of the characterization capacities. The conjugation of these both competences are the steppingstones allowing to collaborate with international industrial and academic partners.
Job Role & Key Responsibilities The candidate will be expected to participate actively in activities related to the research and development of thin film solar cells and modules to be integrated in a living laboratory as well as contribute to thermoelectrics research.
The candidate will undertake the following main activities and responsibilities:

  • Preparation of solar cells and modules
  • Benchmarking of encapsulation solutions with international standards
  • Characterization of thermoelectric materials
  • Reporting, communication and dissemination

Job Requirements Candidates should meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
  • MSc Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Micro and Nano Electronics, Engineering or any other relevant field including Engineering.

Experience and Technical Skills
  • Solar cells;
  • Thin films growth and characterization;
  • Clean room experience;
  • General concepts of renewable energy and storage.

Personal Skills
  • Strong motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary environment, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and to meet deadlines;
  • Team work spirit;
  • Good communication skills;
  • ?Hands-on? approach together with a high commitment in respecting working deadlines;
  • Highly organised and dynamic.

Note: Candidates should not have a labour contract with INL during the 12 months before the application.
Languages Excellent communication skills in English are required since it is the working language of INL.
Supervision The work plan will be developed at the INL under the scientific guidance of Professor Pedro Salomé.
Duration of the contract The total duration of the employment contract shall be 28 months. The expected starting date is January 2021.
