Position: Research Fellowship for candidates with a Ph.D. degree; ?Bolsa de Pós-Doutoramento?.
Admission requirements: Ph.D. degree in Environmental Studies / Engineering sciences or equivalent qualification.
Essential selection criteria:
- Strong affinity in the area of water resources planning and management and water circular economy in, preferably, urban and industrial areas, as to assess the barriers to and drivers for integrating water circular economy within water resources planning and spatial planning;
- Strong affinity with governance, institutional and legal issues;
- Experience with water resources planning or spatial planning challenges and processes.
- Knowledge of GIS applications (e.g. ArcGIS), and their application in spatially explicit environmental mapping approaches;
- Experience with databases, data management, data examination and data representation;
- Experience with co-production stakeholders mobilization processes;
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis, literature reviewing, reporting and journal publication;
- Ability to work harmoniously in an international multi-disciplinary project and team environment;
- Demonstrated enthusiasm, high personal professional standards, independence, motivation and commitment to the job; and
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Job description: The Postdoc will develop evidence-based knowledge regarding the planning and governance conditions that may hinder or facilitate the transition to water circle economy. taking into account the integrated water resources management concept. This overall objective will be developed after the structuring of the necessary information and data as well as related collection with the local support from each of the case study demo-sites (Puglia Region, Italy; Eilat, Israel; Almendralejo, Spain; Osijek, Croatia). Within this overall objective, the key functions of the team member include (i) to assess the bottlenecks to integrating water circular economy approaches into current water resources planning and spatial planning institutional frameworks; (ii) to identify innovate approaches that foster its integration through innovative regulations, planning and governance schemes; (iii) to formulate key drivers for the reinforcement of planning and governance approaches, and to contribute to co-creative schemes able to facilitate the transition to water circular economy; (v) to communicate the work with colleagues and stakeholders by way of dialogue, public presentations, research reports and scientific papers; and (vi) to provide programming, data management and literature review support as required, and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Legislation framework: A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT ?Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources?, in accordance with Portuguese Law 40/2004, of 18 August (Scientific Research Fellow Statute), as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and by Law No. 12/2013, of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July as well as in accordance with the FCT, I.P. Fellowships Regulation, in force (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT.pdf) and UAVR?s Regulation of Scientific Research Grants, as approved on 20 May 2011.
Working place and scientific supervision: The work will be carried out at the Department of Environment and Planning (DAO) of the University of Aveiro (UAVR), under the scientific supervision of Prof. Doutora Teresa Fidélis, Prof. Doutor. Filipe Teles and Doutor Peter Roebeling.
Grant duration: The grant will be for a period of 12 months and may be renewed until a maximum period of 48 months. Expected starting date is the 1st of July 2018. The attribution of the grant is undertaken under an exclusive dedication regime.
Monthly allowance: The fellowship amounts 1495?/month, according to table values of the fellowships awarded directly by the FCT, IP (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to ?Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social?. The fellowship will be paid monthly by check, bank transfer, or another equivalent method.
Selection method: Candidates will be assessed based on their CV, aptitude and motivation (first stage of evaluation), including the relevance of their previous research and project experience (50%), reports and publications (35%) and cover letter (15%). The Selection Committee may decide on the need to have an interview (second stage of evaluation) with the top-three candidates, in person or by tele-/videoconference. In that case, the final classification will be obtained by averaging the result of the first stage (50% weight) and second stage (50% weight) evaluations. The Selection Committee reserves the right not to select any candidate if none of the candidates possesses minimal requirements (final total classification higher than 50%).
